Divine 11 - Adultery



Divine Law

1. Introduction

Jim X was a very successful London-based salesman. His travels often found him away from home for days at a time. One Thursday morning he caught a plane bound for the continent, where he expected to clinch an important contract over the weekend. The deal would net his company millions, not to mention Jim's substantial cut. Jim kissed his wife goodbye and set off. But when he arrived at his destination and met his prospective client he soon realised that the deal was a non-starter. There had been a big misunderstanding. You know what it is when people speak different languages. Anyway, it quickly became apparent that his journey had been a waste of time: so Jim decided to catch the next flight home. He arrived back at his London home at midnight. Not wanting to disturb his wife he quietly let himself into his house and entered the bedroom. What he saw shattered his life to smithereens. His wife was in bed with another man! The story, with variations, is familiar. It happens every week in every country; men and women being caught in the act of adultery.
  • Adultery is glamorised in the media. Not surprisingly therefore:
  • Adultery is popular; it always has been.
  • Adultery is on the increase.
  • Adultery scars the lives of children; of this there is little doubt.
  • Adultery shatter marriages!
But is adultery wrong? Should Jim have been upset? And if it had been the other way around, should a returning wife be upset to find her husband in her bed with another woman? What are the moral issues involved here? Does anyone know?

2. The Law of God

Human beings are incapable of formulating moral laws. Actions considered acceptable in one country are condemned in another. Even the generations within a country have different opinions about what constitutes good moral behaviour. Parents argue with disagreeing teenagers, teachers with pupils, authorities with the population. Everyone it seems has his/her own opinion on what constitutes good moral behaviour. But I repeat: Human beings are incapable of formulating moral laws. Because of this fact we must needs look to God - the one who created us in the first place - for guidance on what constitutes good moral behaviour. Here is what the Almighty says, yea commands, concerning this matter of adultery.
Exodus 20: 14: Thou shalt not commit adultery. (This is one of the Ten Commandments)
Leviticus 18: 20: Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.
Proverbs 6: 32: But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding:
he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
Leviticus 20: 10: And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

3. God's Reaction to Adultery

Perhaps the most well known act of adultery recorded in Scripture is when king David took Bath-sheba the wife of Uriah the Hittite. The woman became pregnant and the king sent Uriah to his death. The story is recorded in 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12. What was God's reaction to king David's sin? The Most High was extremely angry with the king David:
2 Samuel 11: 27: ... the thing that David had done displeased the LORD. God sent the prophet Nathan to David with this message: ...
2 Samuel 12: 9: Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10: Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11: Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12: For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

King David repented deeply. He confessed his sin and Yahweh forgave him: but the inevitable results of David's sin could not be reversed. Later his son Amnon raped his half-sister Tamar and another son Absalom committed adultery with David's concubines on the same palace roof from which David had seen Bath-sheba bathing. David was pardoned for his sins. He will be in the kingdom of God. But he was unable to reverse God's punishment for his adultery and murder. These are facts of history.

4. Prophecies about Adultery

The Most High has not changed. Even in this generation He sees, He notices. Nothing escapes Him and He punishes those who disobey His commandments. Let all who read the following prophecies about adulterous behaviour - beware!
Jeremiah 23: 10: For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.
Jeremiah 23: 14: I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.
Jeremiah 29: 23: Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.
 

5. Spiritual Adultery

Spiritual adultery is the act of mixing truth with error; incorporating pagan worship in the service of the LORD God of Israel. Spiritual adultery is infinitely worse than physical adultery. Alas! it was found in ancient Israel and is currently practised by almost every Christian denomination. For details see Iniquity in the Church.
Jeremiah 13: 27: I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?
Malachi 3: 5: And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
Revelation 2: 20: Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
21: And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
22: Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
23: And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Conclusion

What about practicing adulterers: is salvation possible for them? The answer is yes. Forgiveness and salvation is possible for all sinners who repent and forsake their sins: no matter what those sins may be. But no one should delude themselves into thinking that the Ten Commandments are obsolete and that acts of adultery - albeit fashionable - are going to be ignored by the Almighty God. They will not. The Day of Judgement is fast approaching when every unpardoned sin will be punished. This is the day of Salvation. Do not let it slip away and find you still sinning; because adulterers, fornicators, homosexuals etc, will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Apostle Paul writes this warning:
1 Corinthians 6: 9: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?   Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind.  (Homosexuals)
10: Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Divine 10 - Divorce & Remarriage

Divine Law

 

1. Introduction

Divorce is on the increase. We are told that in some western countries one in three marriages (or cohabiting couples who never officially got married in the first place) will end in breakdown, separation or divorce. Because this break-up rate ('divorce') is rapidly increasing the general public's opinion about divorce is also changing. No longer is divorce looked upon as a tragic failure on a couple's part, or the breaking of solemn vows. Divorce is now just one of those things. Comments such as this are common:
'The couple meant well. They tried to make their marriage work, but failed. It's happening all the time, all over the world: so what!'
This is by no means an isolated viewpoint. Many hold it and are now asking questions such as: If divorce is the likely end of so many marriages, should couples get married in the first place? What are the advantages of getting married? Bear in mind that the public's attitude towards marriage and divorce are crucial to the moral and economic welfare of a nation. If divorce is accepted by the masses without a qualm, soon every second marriage will end in divorce. What does the Almighty think about marriage: after all it was His idea in the first place. Yahweh's opinion about marriage is:
Genesis 2: 18: It is not good for man to be alone.

He instituted marriage at the creation of the world. But what does He think about divorce? The answer is: He absolutely detests divorce.
Malachi 2: 14: Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
15: And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
16: For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

We can see here that the Almighty God is against divorce or 'putting away.': He hates it.

2. Adultery & Fornication

Sad to say the reality of modern married life has turned out very different from the ideal God planned. All around we see broken marriages and families living in silent turmoil. Sexual confusion abounds, especially concerning adultery and fornication. Note the difference between the two:
  • Adultery is defined in the dictionary as 'voluntary sexual intercourse of a married person with one of the opposite sex other than his/her spouse.' The Old Testament Hebrew word for adultery is na'aph. The New Testament Greek word for adultery is Moicheuo.
  • Fornication is defined as 'voluntary sexual intercourse between an unmarried couple.' The Old Testament Hebrew word for fornication is taznuth. The New Testament Greek word for fornication is porneia. We note in the book of Revelation that fornication can be committed even when one of the parties is married. This is as true for married men as it is for married women. If they have sexual relations with a partner other than a spouse, then they are committing fornication.
    Rev.2: 20: Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
    21: And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
    22: Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

Capital Offences

According to Scripture adultery and fornication are capital offences: they attract the death penalty. So they are very serious sins. Adultery and fornication are classified with sins such as kidnap, murder, rape, witchcraft and blasphemy.
Leviticus 20: 10: And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

When ancient Israel was ruled by pagan emperors, whose officials and soldiers were often guilty of these very sins, Israel's puppet rulers were not allowed to carry out the death sentence on the guilty. As a result adultery, fornication, rape, witchcraft and blasphemy went unchecked. It is the same today. Most countries have removed the death sentence for these sins. Little wonder all these sins are on the increase. See our article on Penal Law.

3. Divorce

The Almighty designed that sexual intercourse occur only within marriage. But millions of couples have their own agenda and don't want to know. They want to do their own thing and they wilfully break the divine commandments. The Bible says:
Romans 8: 7: The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Men and women are basically selfish; they want their own way and they seek their own pleasure. If their marriages hit difficulties (and most do) they opt for the easy way out - a divorce; never seeking their Maker's advice or help. Often the excuses put forward are trivial. Some distraught couples pay large sums of money to solicitors, psychiatrists and psychoanalysts: but many of these so-called experts have marital problems of their own. However, we are here to answer the question: What are the scriptural grounds for divorce? According to the Bible, fornication (sexual intercourse prior to marriage) and porneia (sexual indecency following marriage) are grounds for divorce. The Scriptures do not specifically mention adultery as grounds for divorce, presumably because adultery (na'aph) would have earned the death sentence in the first place; thereby making a divorce unnecessary. In other words the question of divorce wouldn't arise, as the adulterer and adulteress would have been put to death. This fact must be borne in mind when we consider the following words of Jesus Christ concerning divorce.
Matthew 5: 31: It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32: But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Matthew 19: 3: The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4: And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5: And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6: Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
7: They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
8: He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
9: And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Mark 10: 11: And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12: And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
Note that little phrase 'and marry another;' because it includes married man sleeping around with single woman! This act of fornication; is common practice these days. But it is highly offensive to God Almighty.

Putting Away For Fornication

Before we go further do remember that the phrase 'putting away' means 'divorce.' Yahweh is against 'putting away (divorce).' He hates it. In fact it is this initial act of 'putting away' a wife for reasons other than fornication or sexual indecency that is the base sin that paves the way for the acts of adultery a divorced woman may commit after being divorced. When Jesus said that fornication is grounds for divorce, he was probably referring to the law concerning a man who married a girl and discovered that she was not a virgin (because she had committed fornication before the marriage). In such cases a man was permitted to divorce his bride on the morning after the wedding. And the reason was for the fornication she had committed with another man before her wedding. The scriptural passage outlining this little-known fact is as follows:
Deut. 22: 13: If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,
14: And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid:
15: Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:
16: And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;
17: And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.
18: And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;
19: And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.
20: But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:
21: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

Sexual Indecency

Sexual indecency within marriage may also be considered grounds for divorce.
Deut.24: 1: When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
2: And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.

The Hebrew word 'ervah' translated here as 'uncleanness' means indecency, sexual perversion, improper behaviour and shameful exposure. The phrase 'it come to pass' indicates that the sin of 'sexual indecency' would come to light some time after the wedding. Sexual indecency, therefore, constitutes grounds for divorce. It could, of course, apply equally to the man as it does to the woman. In fact, 'sexual indecency' is probably more prevalent amongst males than amongst females. But alas! these days couples get divorced for scores of trivial reasons. As a result the marriage institution has become a joke to millions. The world's governments also compound the problem by ignoring Yahweh's penal laws. Thousands of futile laws have been tried and discarded. They don't work and never will. The Most High has given humanity express commandments as to how to deal with sin and crime. Society ignores His commandments at great cost.

4. Total Breakdown

When marriages totally breakdown - for whatever reason - and couples go through the trauma of a divorce, the question is asked: are they doing the right thing? Because this occurs on so large a scale these days, many would answer:
'Of course they are. No one wants a squabbling couple to continue in marital misery!'
But is this the best answer? We don't think so. Right here let us affirm that we are not without sympathy for those involved in a marriage breakdown. Most of us have close relatives who have gone through the agonies of a divorce, and we feel deeply for them. No doubt, the Almighty also suffers deeply as he witnesses the unfaithfulness of His own wife (Israel) and the disintegration of human marriages all over the world. Nevertheless the fact remains that sanctioning divorce for any and every reason is only adding to the swelling tide of misery that is engulfing family life around the globe. For it is a sad fact, that the more readily available divorce becomes, the faster the divorce rate will rise. Divorce is not always the answer to a broken marriage. It may bring temporal relief for the individuals concerned, but in the long run it undermines the very foundations of society and excludes any hopes of reconciliation. In their efforts to relieve the misery of incompatible couples, well meaning authorities of the Church and State have all too often introduced stop-gap laws which merely mass produce the very problems they were intended to cure. They have tried to help the few and inadvertently brought havoc to the many. The mounting divorce rate and the colossal frustration experienced in millions of homes are proof positive that man is quite incapable of formulating his own laws and solving his own problems; especially when they involve those delicate issues between a man and his wife. In these areas it is vitally important therefore that we closely follow the directions of the Almighty God or we risk making shipwreck of our marriages, not to mention our souls.

5. Separation

Having said that, what should a couple do when their marriage totally breaks down? The scriptural answer is: If total breakdown occurs and a wife finds it absolutely impossible to live with her husband, she may separate from him: but she is advised not to marry another man. If at all possible she should stay single during her husband's lifetime and try to work towards a reconciliation.
1 Corinthians 7: 10: And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
11: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

12: But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
13: And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
14: For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
15: But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
16: For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

Here we can clearly see that in extreme cases when a marriage partnership completely disintegrates, a separation is allowed by God; simply because the Almighty has no pleasure in forcing unhappy couples to live together. But notice that the Scriptures do not advocate a divorce and remarriage. Those alternatives are not mentioned. A woman who, therefore, finds that her husband is impossible to live with (the reasons are not given but one can easily imagine what they are: adultery, fornication, twisted sexual behaviour, violence etc.) may choose to leave her husband: but she should not divorce him and marry another man. She should, instead, return to the single state and - if possible - work towards a reconciliation.
Reconciliation is a perfect reflection of what the Almighty has Himself successfully accomplished. Has He not won His erring wife Israel back to Himself? Moreover, I am certain that if humanity continues to ignore the directions of Scripture on these vital matters, and that is what appears to be happening, then the whole superstructure of civilisation, which has as its main building block the 'family unit,' will collapse in ruins. The fact is: broken marriages can be restored and become even stronger than before. Everyone knows of cases where husbands and wives have become reconciled even after repeated incidents of adultery and fornication or being apart for many years.

6. Remarriage

Married Women

A married woman is bound by the law of God to her husband as long as he lives: but is at liberty to remarry when her husband dies. If, whilst he lives, she marries another man, she is classified in Scripture as an adulteress:
Romans 7: 2: For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
3: So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

Bear in mind that Paul is here writing to believers living in pagan Rome: where capital punishment for adultery was not practiced. In other words the divine law which forbids a woman having two living husbands still applies. It supersedes human law.

Married Men

Strange as it may seem, in ancient Israel men were allowed to have more than one wife: but they were not allowed to put away (divorce) the first wife in preference for the second. Sexual encounters with unmarried girls was not considered a marriage but ranked as fornication! For a second marriage to be considered valid, it had to be properly performed and accepted by the priesthood and the people. The rights of the first wife were also to be guaranteed. (Exodus 21:10) The western practice which allows, yea compels, men to divorce a first wife before taking a second is not endorsed in the Scriptures. It is a manmade rule which leads to divorce - something hateful to the Almighty God. Men who, therefore, put away a wife to take another are not meeting Yahweh's original plan (Matthew 19:8) of one man to one wife. Incidentally, the Scriptures do not allow men with more than one wife to hold leading positions in the church. Take note all bishops, pastors, elders, deacons and youth leaders.
1 Timothy 3: 2: A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach.
1 Timothy 3: 12: Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
Titus 1: 6: If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

Remarried Divorcees

We now consider the position of the remarried divorcee who, knowing nothing about the Almighty's laws concerning marriage and divorce, decides to become a believer. This situation is common in the west and is on the increase. It is not explicitly dealt with in Scripture, but we have enough information to venture an opinion; though I must emphasise that this is only my opinion. The world is under the sway of Satan and many of the laws used by various nations to regulate family life are - by Yahweh's standards - woefully inadequate. Human laws on marriage, divorce and remarriage are examples of this. They were written by well meaning individuals or committees and subsequently vetted, amended and passed by well meaning governments; but they are still woefully inadequate by divine standards.
Nevertheless, people live by them and quite freely marry, divorce and remarry - often several times over. Some of these people then come to know the Saviour and later learn the Bible teaching about marriage - that it is for life. Are they expected to go back to their first partner? The answer is NO: and I write this on the strength of the principle latent in this passage of Scripture:
Deut. 24: 1: When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
2: And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.
3: And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;
4: Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

This text does cater for a second marriage. Also in it we notice the reference about returning to her former husband. That act of returning to a former husband, after being officially divorced and married to another, is classified as an abomination. It is obviously something that ought not to be done. In view of this, therefore, I would conclude that given the choice between the two alternatives of
  • Returning to a former husband
  • Staying married to the second man
the second alternative is to be preferred. The woman should stay with her new partner and not return to the first husband.

Summary

In summary we would say that:
  1. Divorce(the breaking apart of legally married couples) is on the increase. No one doubts this fact. Indeed it is a sign of the times: a sign that the return of Jesus Christ is near. (Matthew 24:37-39) Needless to say we all sympathise with couples whose marriages have broken up; but divorce is not the answer. The Almighty hates divorce. (Malachi 2:16)
  2. Adultery and fornication are not the same thing. They are both sexual sins, but with a difference.
  3. In Scripture we find that divorce is permitted exceptionally in cases of:
    • Fornication (Matt.5:31-32, 19:9, Mark 10:11-12)
    • Sexual indecency (Deut.24:1)
    Adultery is not mentioned in Scripture as grounds for divorce, simply because adultery is a capital offence, which if carried out would make divorce unnecessary. The guilty party would receive the death sentence.
  4. With the best will in the world, marriages still breakdown for various other reasons. Too often the man is to blame. He could be the sexual pervert, a drunkard, a drug addict or a brutal bully. Whatever be the case and whoever is to blame, divorce should be the very last resort. Remember that the Most High hates divorce.
  5. When a marriage totally collapses, a separation is permitted, but reconciliation should thereafter be aimed at.
  6. Though men in ancient Israel were allowed to have more than one wife; the practice was certainly not the Almighty's ideal. (Deut. 17:17)
  7. Men with more than one wife are not allowed to officiate in the Christian church as bishops, ministers, pastors, elders, deacons or youth leaders . (1 Timothy 3:2-12, Titus 1:6)

Divine Law

 

1. Introduction

The marriage institution was ordained by Yahweh the Almighty God of Israel at the creation of the world. Though there was no civil ceremony as we know it, that first wedding in Eden was nevertheless as legal a contract as ever there was: because the Almighty himself officiated and the angel host were witnesses. Yahweh's own opinion about marriage was that 'it was not good for man to be alone.'
Genesis 2: 18: And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20: And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21: And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22: And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23: And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Proverbs 18: 22: Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
 

2. A Spiritual Model

Fresh from the Creator's hand, Eve was presented to Adam to become his wife: to be his companion, his helper, his soul-mate, his physical and spiritual partner. But by far the most important purpose for their marriage was that it should prefigure a union still to come: the union between the second Adam (Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus Christ) and his future wife, the ransomed Church. It is only when we consider marriage with that thought in mind, that it is a living object lesson of the soon coming spiritual partnership between the Messiah and his Bride, that we will ever hope to understand its mysteries, appreciate its privileges and benefit from its disciplines. Marriage, in short, was ordained by the Almighty to typify Yeshua the Messiah's spiritual union with the Church, a partnership which is about to commence in the very near future and which will continue for all time. Understanding and living by this basic truth will pave the way to a happy marriage.

3. Marriage Is For Life

Sad to say the marriage union is not taken very seriously these days and marriages are being dissolved at an alarming rate. Nevertheless the Bible teaches that marriage is for life and once consummated can only be annulled by the death of one of the parties.
Romans 7: 1: Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
2: For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
1 Cor.7: 39: The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

No matter how the attitudes of people may change or what laws earthly governments may pass, the above divine precepts are still on the statute books of heaven and society disregards them at great cost.

4. Personal Duties

The Bible also gives us detailed directions as to how married couples should behave towards each other. I will take a few points from just one passage in Scripture: Ephesians 5:22-31.
  • 22: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
    23: For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
    24: Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
  • 25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
    26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
    27: That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
    28: So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
    29: For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
    30: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
    31: For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
    32: This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
    33: Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Married couples who practice this advice will find their partnership a happy and beautiful experience: infinitely more blessed than they had expected. The secret, as we can see from the above passage, is for each partner to concentrate on the welfare and happiness of the other. This spiritual formula will, of course, only work IF it is applied by both parties. Selfishness by either party will wreck any marriage in the course of time.

5. A Team of Equals

Marriage is a team of equals. Their should be no dictatorial bosses and no slaves. In Genesis 2:18 we read the following words:
Genesis 2: 18: And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

That word 'meet' means 'appropriate, fitting, suitable and equal.' In other words Eve was made Adam's intellectual and spiritual equal: different yes, but not inferior. Men should, therefore, not delude themselves into thinking that they are superior to women, because they are not. Likewise, women should never imagine that they are smarter than men. Both viewpoints, popular as they are these days, are totally wrong and self-destroying. When fostered and applied in a marriage, they end in sorrow and tears. The modern trend on TV is for husbands to be depicted as blundering fools constantly being put right by their smart, efficient wives. This trend is slowly brainwashing the nation's youth into thinking that this is the norm. It isn't. The truth is that in some areas men excel: in others women take the lead. This is because each sex has been divinely created with different strengths and no amount of propaganda will change that biological fact. The sexes have been designed by the Creator to play entirely different roles in every field. They complement each other and should never compete. Married couples ignore these basic facts at their peril.

6. Be Faithful

The world is in disarray. Marriages are collapsing all about us. Almost every person these days knows a friend, neighbour or relative whose marriage is on the rocks. Why should this be? What has gone wrong with society? One of the main reasons given in the divorce courts is adultery. What has God to say about adultery? He says this:
Exodus 20: 14: Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Leviticus 18: 20: Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.
Proverbs 6: 32: But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

The law that forbids adultery is one of the Ten Commandments and it is still on the statute books of heaven. Fornication, the sexual act between an unmarried couple (even though one of the parties is married) is likened to the act of adultery. (Revelation 2:20-23) Nothing is guaranteed to destroy a marriage faster than these two acts of adultery and fornication. I urge all married couples to obey the Almighty's commandments. Failure to keep them will surely devastate a relationship; not to mention the terrible effect adultery and fornication have on the children and the awful punishment that will be meted out to the guilty on the terrible Day of Judgement.
 

7. Daily Worship

Years ago Scotland was known as the Land of the Book! In cottages, crofts and castles, the Holy Bible was read almost every day. The Bible made Scotland great: it fortified the faith and character of its people and directed their behaviour. Scottish missionaries compassed the world and taught multiplied millions of heathen the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the laws of Almighty God. But alas! the Holy Bible is out of favour these days in most Scottish homes. The prophet Isaiah and the apostle Paul give us this priceless advice about reading God's word:
Isaiah 34: 16: Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read, Not one of these things shall fail ...
2 Timothy 2: 15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
 

8. Be Equally Yoked

In the Old Testament we read that the Israelites were forbidden to marry Gentiles. This principle still holds good for all true believers; for it is carried forward into the new covenant where Christ's followers are expressly forbidden to be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
Ezra 9: 12: Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons ...
Nehemiah 10: 30: And that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons.
Nehemiah 13: 25: And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.
2 Corinthians 6: 14: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

The requirement for believers to be equally yoked (married to like-minded believers) is still binding: and most religious authorities will agree that couples who ignore this basic guideline do so at great risk.

9. Better to Marry than Burn

Millions of young couples these days set up home without getting married. It's the 'in thing.' The beautiful and the famous are seen doing it: so the youth follow suit. But the point is - are these couples doing wrong? Is sex outside marriage a sin? The answer is: Yes they are doing wrong, sex outside marriage is sin. According to God's law these couples are committing the sin of Fornication! They may think they are being 'smart,' 'with-it' and 'cool;' but they will realise on the Day of Judgement how foolish they have been. Concerning the many sexual sins that are gaining popularity these days the Bible says this:
1 Corinthians 7: 2: To avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
1 Corinthians 6: 9: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,(homosexuals)
10: Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
 

Summary

In summary we would say that:
  1. According to the Almighty it is not good for a man to be alone. That is why He designed the marriage institution: to give man a companion.
  2. Marriage is a spiritual model typifying the Messiah's relationship with His church.
  3. Marriage is for life and normally may only be dissolved at the death of one of the parties.
  4. In marriage the husband should love his wife as Christ loves the church: even to the point of sacrificing his life for her. The wife's part is to honour and obey her husband just as the church is expected to honour and obey Christ.
  5. Marriage is partnership of equals. It is not a competition between the sexes. Men and women have different roles to play in society and are qualified accordingly.
  6. Faithfulness in a marriage is absolutely vital. Acts of adultery or fornication are devastating in their effects.
  7. As a guide to a happy marriage, daily study of the Bible is recommended. Nothing builds a sense of responsibility towards one's spouse better than does Bible study.
  8. Being unequally yoked with unbelievers is not wise. The Bible advises that believers should marry like-minded believers.
  9. Unmarried couples living as man and wife are fornicating. If this sin is not forsaken it will, like adultery and homosexuality, exclude the couple from the kingdom of heaven.

Divine 8 - The Everlasting Covenant

Introduction

A covenant is a legal agreement, a contract between two or more parties. The Everlasting Covenant is an agreement between YAHWEH the God of Israel and His followers.
As its name implies, it is 'everlasting.' This contract will last for all time, age after age, for eternity! It is, therefore, of utmost importance to every believer in the Almighty to learn about this covenant. In common with most business or personal contracts the Everlasting Covenant has the following:
  1. Parties to the covenant.
  2. Specified territories and areas of concern.
  3. A reason for its existence, an AIM.
  4. Rules, provisions and conditions.
  5. Outcomes, benefits and penalties. In spiritual language these are called blessings and cursings.
  6. Signatures, Witnesses and a Seal.
  7. Implementation Procedures: ratification, registration, publication and a starting date etc.
The Everlasting Covenant has all these elements and more. In this article we will briefly examine this amazing, eternal agreement between the Creator of the mighty universe and those who choose to sign up to the contract.

A Covenant of Salvation

The term "Everlasting Covenant" first appears in scripture just after the account of Noah's flood, when Yahweh made an Everlasting Covenant never again to destroy all flesh on earth. Seed time and harvest were also guaranteed in His promise and the rainbow was given as sign of that promise.
Genesis 9: 13: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
14: And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16: And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the Everlasting Covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

Next time you see a rainbow, remember that it is a sign, an 'icon in the sky' that tells you that the Almighty God will never again annihilate all mankind. Nor will He allow man to annihilate himself in nuclear warfare. The rainbow is, in fact, a physical sign in the heavens of the everlasting covenant of salvation!

1. Parties to the Everlasting Covenant

The parties to the Everlasting Covenant are as follows:
  • Yahweh the Almighty God of Israel and His Son on the one hand
  • And all true believers who choose to accept Yahweh's terms of salvation on the other. These believers, and they include those who have put their faith in Yeshua the Messiah, are referred to in scripture as "Israelites," "spiritual Jews" or the "offspring of Abraham." (Romans 2:28-29, Galations 3:29, Romans 11:16-21)
In sacred terminology Yeshua the Saviour is called "the seed of the woman." On the lower, physical plane the patriarch Abraham was selected to father the "chosen race" (Israel) from which this woman (the virgin Mary) was to come. Abraham's selection and call are described in these verses.
Genesis 17: 1: And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2: And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3: And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, 4: As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5: Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
6: And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
7: And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an Everlasting Covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
8: And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
9: And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.
10: This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11: And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

Two Planes

Many Bible truths are expressed on two levels, two planes - the physical and the spiritual. Failure to understand this fact will lead to frustrating misunderstanding. So let me explain these two planes before going any further. They are:
  • The Lower Physical Plane: This is the visible lesson, the model, the blueprint, the type, the illustration, the pattern, the recipe. In human terms it is real, for it can be measured, felt, bought and sold. But in actual fact, this level is merely the temporary, passing lesson.
  • The Higher, Spiritual Plane: This is the real thing. It is measureless and eternal. It embodies spiritual concepts, eternal principles and divine objectives.
On the lower, physical plane, that is at 'model or blueprint level' the literal descendants of Abraham (the blood-born descendants of Israel) were to take possession of the literal land of Canaan. On the higher, spiritual plane, Abraham's seed (Yeshua the Messiah) and his spiritual offspring (true believers from all nations) will take possession of the new heavens and new earth. Remember these two levels as you study further.

2. The Territory of the Everlasting Covenant

The land promised to Abraham and his "seed" (initially the literal progeny of Jacob, but ultimately the Messiah's offspring of faithful followers) was actually much larger than that which is currently held by the nation of Israel. Yahweh promised Israel a territory stretching from the Mediterranean to the river Euphrates and to the uttermost sea! In other words, the Almighty promised the whole earth to true believers in Abraham's seed - the Messiah. Literal Israel's possession of land is simply the 'kindergarten model' of that eternal inheritance - the reality! Here are the Bible texts which mention these astonishing facts.
Genesis 15: 18: In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
Deuteronomy 1: 7: Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
8: Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them."
Deuteronomy 11: 24: Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be."
Romans 4: 13: For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

In other words, the territory which the Everlasting Covenant encompasses is the entire universe. It will stretch from this age to age for all time and through all space - to the uttermost oceans of time and space!

3. The Aim of the Everlasting Covenant

Yahweh's ultimate objective in designing the Everlasting Covenant is that His children, His followers become absolutely perfect as He is perfect. It is currently not possible for the Most High, the holy, sinless God to abide with mankind. We are sinful; and a holy God cannot abide sin anywhere near Him. We must first be cleansed, totally cleansed from every vestige of sin before we can ever hope to come and dwell in Yahweh's holy presence. This fact is mentioned by Jesus, Yahweh's Son, in his famous sermon on the mount when he said:
Matthew 5: 48: Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

The whole plan of salvation is simply a means to that end. In short, the aim of the Everlasting Covenant is that the redeemed host will reach a state of absolute perfection in order that we may live with a perfect and holy God for all time.

4. The Rules of the Everlasting Covenant

Every covenant worthy of its name has conditional clauses and rules which the parties involved agree upon. It is not possible to find a covenant anywhere on earth which doesn't contain rules or conditions. The Everlasting Covenant is no exception. It also has rules. The rules and conditions in the Everlasting Covenant were designed and delivered by Yahweh Himself in the presence of billions of angels, millions of literal Israelites and thousands of believing foreigners. These rules, Yahweh's law, were actually spoken by God Himself when He descended on mount Sinai in the desert of Arabia. Everyone present heard His voice as He delivered His law. Broadly speaking Yahweh's law can be divided into two categories:
  • TheTen Commandments which Yahweh spoke out loud to all Israel and then wrote with His own finger on stone tablets.
  • Other commandments which He spoke and which later Moses wrote in a book.

The Ark of the Covenant

The ten commandments were then placed inside a specially prepared box called the Ark of the Covenant. The cover of this box is called the mercy seat. It was made of pure gold. At each end of the ark were two cherubim made of beaten gold. The Almighty would commune with His people from above the mercy seat and between the two cherubim. Here is the record of these facts.
Exodus 25: 18: And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.
19: And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.
20: And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.
21: And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.
22: And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
1 Kings 8: 9: There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

The ark of the covenant is a scaled-down model of Yahweh's throne and His government; which is based on His holy law and infinite mercy. These facts are fully explained in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. In this article I simply quote a few verses as pointers. You must read those four books to get the whole picture. The Bible says: that any person, Jew or Gentile, who believes in Israel's God and obeys His commandments is classified by the Almighty as His "peculiar treasure" - and is more precious to Him than all others.
Exodus 19: 5: Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.

Deuteronomy 9: 9: When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water.

Psalm 105: 10: And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an Everlasting Covenant.
 

5. Outcomes of the Everlasting Gospel

In addition to its laws, the Everlasting Covenant has outcomes. Whether we realise or not these outcomes involve everyone who elects to become a believer in the Almighty and His Son. Briefly the two outcomes are as follows:

Blessing for Obedience

Deuteronomy 28: 1: And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
3: Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
4: Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
5: Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
6: Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
7: The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
8: The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
9: The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.
10: And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11: And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12: The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13: And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
14: And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
Psalm 103: 17: But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;
18: To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

Cursing for Disobedience

Deuteronomy 28: 15: But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
16: Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
17: Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
18: Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
19: Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
20: The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.
21: The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.
22: The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
23: And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.
24: The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
25: The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
26: And thy carcase shall be meat unto all fowls of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall fray them away.
27: The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed.
28: The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart:
29: And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee.
30: Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
31: Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them.

Beware of False Prophets!

Deuteronomy 29: 18: Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
19: And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
20: The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
Jeremiah 11: 3: And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant ...

The Whole Earth is Cursed! Why?

Isaiah 24: 1: Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
2: And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.
3: The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.
4: The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.
5: The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

 

6. The Sign of the Everlasting Covenant

Yahweh's Sabbath is His sign or signature of sanctification. It is the Almighty's badge of ownership on the true believer's mind; a memorial symbol that Yahweh the God of Israel is setting that person apart for Himself. Sabbath observance identifies the true Israelite.   The Sabbath is the everlasting sign of the everlasting covenant. It will be kept throughout eternity by the redeemed host. That is what the scriptures teach.
Exodus 31: 16: Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17:It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
18: And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
Ezekiel 20: 12: Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
verse 20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.
Isaiah 66: 22: For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

The Everlasting Gospel

The Everlasting Gospel is the good news of salvation, an appeal to earth's multitudes to accept Yahweh's offer of salvation through His Son Jesus. The Everlasting Gospel is an invitation to sign up to the Everlasting Covenant. Those who positively respond to this invitation will declare their faith in the Creator and His Son by keeping that divinely appointed memorial of the creation and the sign of the Everlasting Covenant, the seventh day Sabbath.

7. What about You?

What does this mean for the average person? It means this: every believer in the God of Israel, whether he/she be Jew or Gentile, should pay special attention to the Everlasting Covenant. The Everlasting Covenant, I need hardly repeat, is everlasting. It exists at this very moment. To be sure most of Israel, to whom it was first given, broke and rejected its terms. But that didn't cause Yahweh to abandon His covenant with Abraham and his 'seed' which on the higher plane meant Jesus and his followers. Oh no! Israel's and Christian disobedience simply activated those clause curses. Nevertheless the Everlasting Covenant still exists. Its laws and provisions are also eternal. They will last for all time, through endless ages in the new heavens and the new earth. The Everlasting Covenant has been signed, sealed and ratified with the blood of Yahweh's Son, Yeshua the Messiah! If you are a true believer in Jesus Christ, then, according to the scriptures, you are a "child of Abraham" and are a party to this covenant. If you persist in disobedience the curses written in the book of the covenant will fall upon you. If you obey the terms of the covenant then blessings will be your portion. All this is plainly taught in the Bible. Hearken to these verses:
Isaiah 55: 3: Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an Everlasting Covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
1 Chronicles 16: 15: Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;
16: Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;
17: And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant.
Psalm 25: 14: The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
Isaiah 56: 6: Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
7: Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

 

8. The New Covenant

Many Christians dismiss the above arguments and Bible quotations with the exclamation "Didn’t you know that we are now under the new covenant?" Sure we knew. What they don't realise is that certain persons, laws and conditions are common to both covenants. For example Yahweh the God of Israel in the old covenant is still Yahweh the God of Israel of the new. Also notice from the quotation below that both covenants are made with Israel and Judah.
Hebrews 8: 8:... Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.

Where, then, are the differences between the old and new covenants? The answer is:
  • The old covenant had a manmade temple, an Aaronic priesthood, animal sacrifices and various rituals involving blood, flour, oil and repeated washings.
  • The new covenant has a divinely constructed Temple, a Melchisedec priesthood, it is ratified with the blood of Yeshua the Messiah and the symbolism of the old is replaced by the reality to which the symbolism pointed.
But, and here is a vital point you must understand if you wish to a be party to the Everlasting Covenant: the same moral laws, (i.e. The Ten Commandments) apply in both covenants. Moral commandments embody eternal principles which can never become obsolete. They are a transcript of the Almighty's character and are as unchanging as God Himself. They are to be inscribed by Him on the tablets of the true believer's heart and mind in the very near future. If, therefore, you want to be party to the Everlasting Covenant, then you must allow the God of Israel to sign and seal you with His own character, His Name. This means you must be willing to receive and obey His commandments. No other option is on offer to those who wish to be party to the Everlasting Covenant. Please do not baulk at this revelation. The God of Israel is about to inscribe His holy law on the minds and hearts of His people Israel. According to Scripture (Gal:3:29) if you believe in Jesus Christ then you are an Israelite - a potential candidate for the Everlasting Covenant. Do not miss this opportunity to become a party to the Everlasting Covenant!

1. Love for God

Love is, arguably, the most popular subject in the world today. Millions of magazine articles, books and TV plays are about 'love.' But most are about 'romantic love;' the well known attraction between lovers and spouses. This article, however, is not about romantic or sexual love. Nor is it about maternal love, that wonderful bond that dwells in the heart of a mother for her child. This file is about love for God and one's fellow human beings. The Almighty's command concerning this type of love is as follows:
Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

An amazing command by any standard, you will agree. But what does the word 'love' mean in this context? What must one do or feel towards God to love Him with all one's heart, soul and might? Obviously romance and sex are totally excluded here. Sexual love and romantic feelings have absolutely nothing to do with the kind of 'love' God is requiring of us. So what does the Almighty mean when He uses the word love? What does He want us to do, or not do to show our love for Him? To arrive at the answer we must turn to other Bible texts where Jehovah (Yahweh), and that is the Almighty's name, couples this word 'love' with certain actions and mental attitudes. Searching the Scripture we find many, many texts that help us understand what God means when He commands us to love Him with heart, soul and might. I will list just a few texts for the reader's benefit. Study them carefully: because this command concerning 'love for God' is the most important commandment in the whole Bible. It is referred to in Scripture as the 'great commandment.' When the Saviour was asked which commandment was the greatest, he quoted this commandment. So you will agree it is important.
Matthew 22: 36: Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38: This is the first and great commandment.

Now to those verses which explain what the Almighty wants His followers to do in order to show that they love Him with heart, soul and mind.
Deuteronomy 11: 13: And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 11: 22: For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him.
Deuteronomy 13: 1: If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2: And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3: Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
4: Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Did you carefully read all those texts? If you did you will have noticed that to 'love the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul' means to keep His commandments. In other words to love God is to obey Him, to do what He says, to carry out His will. Before you can do this you must first acquaint yourself with His commandments; just as a motorist must first learn the highway code before he can obey it. In the New Testament the word 'love' is used in exactly the same way as in the Old. Love means obedience. Obedience proves that we love God. Disobedience proves that we do not love Him. Jesus said to his disciples:
John 14: 21: He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
1 John 2: 4: He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 5: 2: By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3: For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
John 14:
John 14: 15: If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Some Christians assume that the commandments Jesus refers to are different from those of his Father. They are mistaken. As mentioned above, Jesus didn't formulate a new set of commandments. When he spoke of 'the law,' he always meant his Father's commandments - 'the commandments of God.' In the New Testament we find that the church is advised to, and does keep - the 'commandments of God.' (1 Cor.7:9, Rev.12:17, Rev.14:12)

2. Love thy Neighbour

The second most important commandment in the law of God is 'love thy neighbour as thyself.' Many Christians suppose that this is a New Testament revelation. They are mistaken. Jesus simply quoted this commandment from the Old Testament. Here it is:
Leviticus 19: 18: Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

The Saviour's words were as follows:
Matthew 22: 36: Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38: This is the first and great commandment.
39: And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40: On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
In other words the divine principle of love called for in those two commandments governs all the other rules and regulations in the Torah, the law of the Almighty.
  • And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (Deuteronomy 6:5)
  • Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself (Leviticus 19:8)
When we study the Ten Commandments, which also hang on these two great commands, we notice that the first four of the ten specify how we are to love God. The last six tell us how we are commanded to love our fellow human beings. True love for God has nothing to do with the sexual, gushy sentimentality portrayed in the movies. True love for God and others is a holy, spiritual principle, which expresses itself in obedience to Yahweh's commandments. Emotion may play a part in the process; but it is a small part when compared to holiness, obedience, respect for others, a sense of responsibility, self control, honesty, integrity, kindness, generosity, hospitality and contentment. You will learn a lot about true love for God and neighbour when you study Yahweh's law. It is the divine formula for true love. If, with His help, you seek to practice it, you will be well on your way to "loving the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might ... and thy neighbour as thyself." Those who reject Yahweh's law are heading for disaster. That is what the Almighty says to all the peoples of the world. Here is His sobering warning.
Jeremiah 6: 18: Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.
19: Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

Doctrine, Who Needs it?


1. INTRODUCTION
Doctrine is an unpopular word these days. Comparatively few Christians wish to discuss doctrine. The buzz word of this generation is experience. As the 'charismatic wave' sweeps country after country, these or similar all-to-familiar words will be heard:  "I've been baptised in the Holy Spirit and you haven't. So don't talk to me about doctrine, because I know. The Holy Spirit teaches me all I need to know about doctrine. He shows me what is right and what is wrong. It's experience that counts, not obsolete doctrine.
This article is not attempting to dismiss another's experience. Rather it is an attempt to set the record straight on the vital issue of DOCTRINE. What is doctrine anyway? The Oxford Dictionary defines the word 'doctrine' as:'a principle or set of principles and beliefs held by a religious, political or other group.'  

2. JESUS TAUGHT SOUND DOCTRINE
Strange as it may seem Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah) only taught doctrine. In fact all religious instruction, of whatever faith, is based on 'doctrine,' on a 'set of principles.' I'm sure no religious leader worthy of his position would advocate abandoning religious principles - doctrine! But What Is Sound Doctrine?
The answer is: Sound doctrine is the unique set of religious principles which originated from Yahweh the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel. Sound doctrine, in short, is the set of principles by which the Almighty lives. They form an integral part of His character; and He alone has the right to define them. True believers may subsequently adopt and teach those sacred principles, but only the Almighty has the authority to define them: because they originated in His mind. When Yahweh's Son, Yeshua the Messiah, came to earth he confirmed this fact. He practised and taught his Father's doctrines - nothing else! All his sermons were based on the 'religious principles' he had learned from his heavenly Father. They were not his own ideas: they were his Father's. Listen to the Saviour's own testimony:
John 7: 16: Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
John 12: 49: For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50: And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
The Saviour's famous Sermon on the Mount is an example of his Father's doctrine.
Matthew 7: 28: And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine.

Why is Doctrine so Important?
The answer is: because Yahweh's principles motivate all His actions and laws. They give us insight into His plans and methods. Consequently when you study divine law, you are also studying the motivating principles and will of the Almighty God! You are studying eternal principles which uphold and govern the present and the future universe. No subject could possibly compare with the study of divine law: because it is the study of Yahweh's own will and character.  

Sad to say, the self-worshipping human mind thought it could do better than the Almighty. It began to conceive doctrines of its own. In this article these are called man-made doctrines. Yes, believe it or not, man set about to design his own doctrines, principles, laws and standards of morality. It wasn't long before the church joined in and jettisoned long established Biblical principles (doctrines) handed down by the prophets and Apostles of old. The church adopted the 'doctrines of men:' and to each incoming doctrine it gave a Christian title. Let me list a few of the doctrines the church adopted from heathenism.
  • Mother and Child Worship: This began in ancient Babylon and spread to the ends of the earth.
  • Christmas: This popular festival came directly from paganism.
  • Sunday Observance: The weekly rest day of sun-worshipping pagans.
  • Infant Baptism: Nowhere in the scriptures will you find infants being baptised. Jesus Christ was baptised at the age of 30 years! In Scripture infants are dedicated, adults baptised.
  • The Rosary: Another practice adopted from paganism.
  • The Sign of the Cross: "The same sign of the cross that Rome now worships was used in the Babylonian Mysteries, was applied by Paganism to the same magic purposes, was honoured with the same honours. That which is now called the Christian cross was originally no Christian emblem at all, but the mystic Tau of the Chaldeans and Egyptians - the true original form of the letter T - the initial of the name Tammuz." These are a few of the man-made doctrines the fallen church adopted as it jettisoned the sacred doctrines of the Almighty God. It is quite impossible to tell the catastrophic effect this action has already had on the human race. Church leaders thought that by accommodating pagan ideas and doctrine it would attract souls to its fold. It certainly did: but millions in the church are still in darkness as far as the truth is concerned. Who knows how many - or few - of these teeming millions will make it to the Kingdom of Heaven! The result of this tragic policy is that the world is in moral darkness and almost on the point of self-destruction. The church has rejected the living waters of Yahweh's truth and embraced paganism instead. This is the underlying cause of humanity's problems: and this is why most worship - in and out of the church - is vain and futile! One might compare the 'doctrines of men' to spiritual contraceptives. They not only stifle life, but their long term effect is 'virtual impotency' in every sector of human society. Hearken to the Saviour's words in Mark 7:7 concerning the doctrines of men.
"Howbeit in vain do they worship me,   teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
What does this verse mean for this generation? It means this: if we attempt to worship the Creator in a way that He has not authorised, no matter how popular or exciting that way may happen to be, our worship is vain, worthless and a total waste of time. We may dance around in Baal-like frenzy, we may beat the air, laugh, sing, shout, clap our hands or collapse in ecstatic delirium: but we will accomplish nothing of any value, no matter how feverishly we work at it. Because the fact is, 'worship that is not based on genuine faith and obedience to the commandments of God is vain, futile and worthless worship!' That is what the Scriptures teach!

4. THE DOCTRINES OF THE NICOLAITANS
False doctrine always leads to sin; and more often than not to sexual sin. Indeed that is the very reason why Satan works so hard at getting mankind to adopt falsehood. But Yahweh hates false doctrine. Therefore, no matter how attractive or exciting false doctrine may appear, it must be put out of our lives. Only then will we be able to stand in the Day of Judgement.
Revelation 2: 6: But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

Who are the Nicolaitans? According to the Westminster Dictionary of the Bible (page 427) they were:
"A party or sect in the churches of Ephesus and Pergamos whose practice and doctrine are severely censured. Following the doctrine of Balaam, they taught that Christians were free to eat things offered to idols and to commit the excesses of heathenism, (Rev.2:6, 14,15), contrary to the command issued by the apostolic council held at Jerusalem A.D. 50 (Acts 15:29)... A sect of Nicolaitans existed among the Gnostics of the 3rd century. They too taught the freedom of the flesh ..."
In other words, the Nicolaitans introduced 'sexual freedom' into their worship. Their 'man-made doctrines,' initially inspired by the false prophet Balaam, appeared quite harmless at first: but it wasn't long before they were involved in illegal sexual acts which accompanied the worship of BAAL...The Pagan God of Fertility. Let me repeat: false doctrine always leads to sin, especially sexual sin!

5. YAHWEH'S DOCTRINE
The Saviour taught sound doctrine; that is, the spiritual principles he learned from his Heavenly Father. Never did he conceive a doctrine of his own: though he often needed to magnify, explain and demonstrate his Father's doctrines and the laws based on them. Here is proof of this astonishing fact.
John 7: 16: Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
John 8: 28: Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
The Key to Understanding Sound Doctrine
Sound doctrine is best understood by the obedient; by those who really want to do the Father's will. You have absolutely no chance whatsoever of appreciating the value of true spiritual principles and divine law if you blatantly practice sin or do not wish to give it up. Only the obedient understand the Father's will. (Daniel 12:10)
John 7: 17: If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine,
  whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

6. THE DOCTRINE OF DEVILS
Devils are evil angels who have revolted against the Almighty. They are spirit beings and they posses enormous powers. In the distant past millions of evil angels rejected Yahweh's authority and His laws. Ever since, they have done their utmost to ruin His creation and frustrate His work. The Holy Spirit warns us about the increased activity of evil spirits (devils) in the days just prior to the return of Jesus Christ to earth.
1 Timothy 4: 1: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils ...
3: Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

One such doctrine of devils is 'enforced celibacy.' Another is to 'forbid eating meat.' (verse 3). These two doctrines are widespread in pagan lands, where they originated. They are classified in Scripture as the 'doctrines of devils.' Sad to say the Christian church adopted these two doctrines. The tragic consequences of this adoption continues to this day in communities around the world.

7. SHOULD WE PREACH SOUND DOCTRINE?
We are commanded to preach sound doctrine. The world is perishing because of a lack of sound doctrine; those divine principles which teach us how to regulate our behaviour. The popular church has departed from the doctrines of the Bible and are now wallowing in the unclean doctrines of men and angels. Because of this, sin in its myriad forms is smothering the life out of billions of souls! We dare not remain silent; even if it means upsetting some readers, a reaction we deeply regret.
  • Jesus taught sound doctrine
    Mark 1: 22: And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
    Mark 12: 38: And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces.
  • The Apostles taught sound doctrine
    Acts 5: 28: Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
    Acts 13: 12: Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
    Acts 17: 19: And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?
  • Scriptural advice concerning doctrine
    1 Timothy 1: 3: As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine.

SUMMARY
  • Sound doctrine is a set of moral principles which comes from Yahweh the Almighty God of Israel. It forms the basis of His character, His will and His law.
  • Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) always taught sound doctrine; which he received from His heavenly Father. He never introduced a single doctrine of his own: but always magnified his Father's laws in order that mankind would appreciate their meaning.
  • Sad to say the Christian church set aside the doctrines of the Almighty and adopted in their place the 'doctrines of men and angels' (Sunday observance, Christmas, Easter, Ash Wednesday, relic/idol worship, celibacy of the priesthood etc.).
  • Teaching and living by the 'doctrines of men' results in vain, futile and worthless worship. Believers may delude themselves and each other; but we cannot delude the Almighty. The Saviour's warning was: 'Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted will be rooted up.' This applies to all false doctrine, be it of men or angels.
  • The Bible admonishes us to live by sound doctrine:- the principles of Yahweh.
  • If you really wish to understand the will of the Almighty you must begin to obey His commandments: which are simply the divine definitions of His own principles.
  • You may have had some extremely exciting experiences. I'll not doubt them. But if you are relying on personal experiences instead of the Word of God, then you are in for a big surprise on the soon-coming Day of Judgement.
